Located on the campus of Sandhills Community College in the Pinehurst - Southern Pines area, and consisting of a variety of gardens, including the unique and natural environment of the North Carolina Sandhills and cover twenty seven acres. The Sandhills Horticultural Gardens offers a diverse collection of plants, both familiar and eclectic and include a formal garden in the English style, collections of conifers and holly, a native wetland trail, fruit and vegetable garden, roses, azaleas, rhododendrons, and a xeriscape devoted to succulents including cacti, yuccas and more, all presented in a specially designed landscapes.
Sandhills Community College chartered November 7, 1963 and five years later the Landscape Gardening School was initiated. In 1978 the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens became a reality with the establishment of the Ebersole Holly Gard
en and over the years, additional gardens have been implemented, including the Rose Garden, the Conifer Garden, the Sir Walter Raleigh Garden, the Hillside Garden, the Fruit & Vegetable Garden, and the Desmond Native Wetland Trail Garden.
The Sandhills Community College is located at 3395 Airport Road, Pinehurst, North Carolina, 28374 and the horticultural gardens are open to the public daily, free of cost, and offer an educational adventure to anyone seeking to learn more about plants, nature, and design composition.
